I love my job! You get to meet such interesting people and see the most spectacular sights whilst doing location scouting! Julian and Anré got married just other side the Worcester tunnel, at Du Kloof Lodge, a quaint little set up surrounded by these majestic mountains! Being afraid that the high mountains would block any late afternoon light for the couple shoot, Adel and I went scouting around for higher places where the sun would still reach for our couple shoot. Just left off the N2 we turned into a road that would lead us to Oom Bas’s house. Oom Bas (short for Sebastian) was on his way out to sort out the baboons that were pestering the people at the venue, when he saw my old green corolla coming up his drive way. Assuming we were rather lost, asked if we were. We explained we weren’t, we were just location scouting and looking for a spot were the sun would still reach come sunset. Before we knew it, we were in Oom Bas’s single cab Hilux bakkie going up the mountain on THE wildest 4×4 location scouting route that I have ever been on!! Donga’s and canyons in the road did not deter Oom Bas and we got to see some breathtaking views, and stunning fynbos.
After finding a cool spot we headed off back to the venue to start shooting. The baboons that were in the area must have figured out that Oom Bas was on his way, and left just before he arrived. Lucky for them only Adel and I were shooting that day.
