Where to begin with this unforgettable wedding? Oh yes, the incessant rain and cold wind! I remember lying in bed the weekend before Robert and Petronél’s wedding when the weather was just as bad and I was feeling very smug (and grateful) that I didn’t have to shoot a wedding in that cold. For a brief moment I felt sorry for those photographers who were shooting in that, then I just snuggled up in bed and lay under my warm blankies for comfort. Little did I know that the very next weekend I would have to shoot in weather that was arguably slightly worse than that! I kept thinking to myself that somewhere out there, there was some lucky photographer (and bridal couple) who was snuggled up in their warm blankies saying: “I’m so glad I don’t have a wedding today!” :)
Anyhow, This was by far the most challenging weather to shoot in because it constantly rained, the wind made it extremely difficult to just be outside and was destroying umbrellas left right and centre, and not only that but the rain clouds were so dark that it made it really difficult to shoot in. I felt so sorry for Petronél, who had planned everything to the tee but the weather just didn’t want to cooperate! But never the less both her and Robert handled it extremely well. Robert even said in his speech that if the rain was seen as God showering down his blessings then they were blessed for life! :) If it was my wedding I think I would have been in tears, especially after waking up on the Sunday and it was the MOST beautiful sunshiny day! :) I suppose we can plan everything EXCEPT the weather! :) I was very impressed with Caren Fourie’s hair styling because even after the whole day of running around in the rain, not one of Petro’s hairs were out of place! She looked as stunning at the end of the day as she did at the beginning!
Another thing that made this wedding unforgettable was that it was a day filled with emotion. It was a great celebration of the two lives that had come together and also a remembrance of people who couldn’t be there, but were watching down from heaven. It was clear from the moment that I arrived at the guest house that family was incredibly important to Robert and Petronél. The house was bustling with family and laughter and warm camaraderie- it was great! The guests had a funtastic time, and my, oh my- did they party! Was so much fun watching from the side of the dance floor snapping away at all the funny moves!
Robert absolutely dotes on Petronél, and it was so wonderful to see how gently he works with her, treating her like the lady she is!
Jys awesome!
