So I’ve been meaning to blog this wedding for a while, but only now have had time to get around to it! A while back Facebook was flooded with pictures of snow on the Western Cape mountains and everyone was complaining about the cold. At that time I was in Mpumalanga and had missed the snowfall- and even though I was sorry for not seeing it, I was at least thrilled at the idea of catching a tan whilst in Nelspruit where the predicted temperatures were around 35 degrees Celsius.
I flew up on the Thursday to Johannesburg, caught the Citybug to Nelspruit where I met up with JR and Elizmari before going to their brother in laws birthday supper. What a friendly family! I was immediately made to feel welcome and after dining at a lovely Portuguese restaurant we went through to Barberton where their families live. On the Friday morning we drove through to Florence Guest Farm wedding venue near Chrissiesmeer, which is about 2 hours away from Nelspruit. There the weather was completely different and I started to think that the Cape Town people were rather lucky and experiencing nice warm weather compared to what we were. The wind there was icey cold and it was HOWLING!
At one point during the wedding day it was 6 degrees, although the sun was shining and the wind had died down a bit- the cold was just point blank rude. Oom Hennie, who drove the wedding car brought a bottle of red wine along in an attempt to warm everyone up a little. Even that didn’t help! I have never laughed so much in a photo shoot before- but I think we were all doing it in an attempt to survive the cold. It was about the only thing one could do! Poor Elizmari and JR were blocks of ice when they went into the reception hall. The venue at Florence farms luckily has many fireplaces and we went to thaw a little at one of them, before continuing with the rest of the formalities.
JR and Elizmari are a warm couple who laugh easily and love much! I had such a blast with them on the wedding day and was really spoilt in my time there. Surrounded with fantastic family and meaningful friends, their marriage started off as a wonderful celebration and I’m sure it will continue with all that support.
JR en Elizmari- dankie vir al die grappies, die gelaggery, en die Despicable Me sê goedjies! Julle is ‘n awesome paartjie en ek bid dat die Here julle huwelik somer baie sal seën vir ewig en altyd! Baie blessings
