Eugene and Jamie got married in the scenic valley of the Breerivier, at the quaint little venue called Bon Cap. My very first wedding I ever assisted at in 2010, was shot here. Back then I was still studying and wanted to pursue a career in advertising photography. In order to do that I was told that I had to get some assisting experience in the field. However, the only assisting opportunities I could find were with wedding photographers- not at all the direction I was wanting to go in! Truth be told, I was petrified of the pressure that comes with weddings. They are emotionally charged days, and you only have one chance to get the moments as they happen. You can’t reschedule or re-shoot, so stuffing up is not an option!
June Joubert, an absolute angel of a wedding photographer, was kind enough to let me tag along to Natalie and Richards big day where she showed me the ropes of shooting a wedding. Through her careful planning, and calm and joyful manner that she went about shooting, I soon came to realize that this wedding photography thing is not as impossibly scary as I had made it out to be in my head. Who would have though that six years later, I would be a full time wedding photographer- with no desire whatsoever to go into the advertising world?!
I’ve been back into this valley a few times in the last few years and every time I have witnessed the most beautiful sunset and golden hour light. Every photographers dream! It was no different with Eugene and Jamie’s wedding, and to say I had a blast photographing this lovely couple in that golden hour light, is a huge understatement! I got so excited, I think I spontaneously broke into a weird happy dance with every second photo.
Eugene and Jamie- thank you for being the easy going people you are and for being an absolute breeze to work with! It was so cool to see the very special bond of friendship that you have with one another, and how deep your love and affection runs. May your marriage be a truly happy and blessed one in which you experience SO much peace and joy. Sending you much love and blessings xxx
Thanks to Marelize, my darling assistant for the day. You were a great help!
