My path crossed with Xanthe’s many moons ago when we were at school together. She was a few years younger than me, and all that I knew of her at the time was that she was a gentle and rather shy girl from Zambia who loved animals. Fast forward a few years and that shy girl has blossomed into a beautiful young woman who has retained her gentleness and love for animals, but also gained a quiet strength and confidence about her. Xanthe is kind, considerate and a no fuss, hard working farm girl. She is also a designer and photographer in her own right and freelances from their farm just outside of Lusaka. Fabio is an easy going guy with a wonderful sense of humour, and great Italian cooking skills- he also absolutely adores Xanths.
It’s always such a big compliment when a fellow photographer asks you to photograph their wedding- however it also comes with some undercover pressure…(Don’t know if other photographers also feel this? but I certainly always do :))
I mean, what if they don’t like the locations you choose? or the camera you’re using- because theirs is better? or the lighting? or the editing? or what if they would have done it differently? That nervousness is also heightened when they fly you all the way up to another country to photograph their wedding! As ridiculous as it sounds- those thoughts were going through my head and I was succumbing to the pressure I was placing on myself. However, those soon faded away when I landed in Zambia and met Xanthe and Fabio. Through their gentle and laid back manner, they put me at ease and I soon realized that I was being a tard for freaking out inside. Just like their friends and family, Fabio and Xanthe are those super nice people that make you feel at home right away.
Their wedding ceremony was held in Xanthe’s grans front garden, and a sheep land was transformed into a gorgeous reception area for the party afterwards. Neighbours, friends and family all jumped in to help in wherever they could, and the result was a fun filled celebration of the love that Fabio and Xanthe have found in one another.
To Fabs and Xanths- thank you for entrusting me with the task of capturing your stunning farm wedding and for being so much fun to work with. Wishing you all the best for your married life together. May God bless you in every aspect of this journey and may you enjoy His peace, joy and love for the rest of your lives.
Sending lots of love xxx
