In December I had the privilege of road-tripping up to Namibia with some friends for Carlin and DeWet’s wedding. Carlin is one of my oldest and dearest friends from school- and is such a darling! She was the girl at school that everyone loved because she was just SO (genuinely) ridiculously nice to absolutely everyone. Always smiling, tenderhearted and with an ability to listen like no one else I have ever met- Carlin is truly the most amazing friend. You could chat about the deep matters of the heart with her, and walk away feeling encouraged because she would have shared some godly advice or wisdom that always pointed you back to Christ.
Although we were always friendly with one another we only became best friends in our final year of school. In Matric we were made prefects of Intermediate House, which was the hostel for the junior school kiddies- and so naturally we were forced to co-inhabit with one another, and 40 other rather cute but very naughty little humanoids ranging between the ages of 4 and 13. Our friendship was solidified through watching Braveheart over and over (and OVER again- because we both had crushes on Mel Gibson) and we could both, in the blink of an eye devour a whole slab of the Cadbury’s limited addition Strawberry yogurt chocolate like it was nothing! We were addicted to the Braveheart/Strawberry yogurt chocolate combo and of course, spending time together.
After doing our duties and putting the kids to sleep when the lights had gone out, Carlin would make her way to my room for a cup of tea and my mom’s famous homemade rusks. We would end up chatting until late into the night (often waking the kids, that we had just put to sleep, with our raucous laughter). Sometimes it got so late that Carls would just sleep over in my room.
Sleeping “Kop & Pootjie” on a tiny single bed was never the most comfortable thing to do but it was better than being apart! Because it was in those late hours of the night that we could chat about everything pertaining to life and godliness. It is then that we would share with one another our hopes and dreams and aspirations as well as our fears and failures. It was then that we would pray for our future husbands and endlessly wonder who they would be, and what they would look like.
Well Carly, after so many years of wondering and praying, you have your answer! You’ve always wanted a manly man who loves Christ and would treat you like the princess you are, and so the Lord gave you DeWet. He might not be William Wallace with a sexy scottish accent- but this charming and talented 3 time Karate World champion boere seun (with a wicked sense of humour), loves God,loves you and is the answer to your prayers.
There might have been many ups and downs, and there will probably be many more- because such is life! But I know that through you both abiding in Christ- you guys will weather any storm life throws at you, and you will do so with a smile on your faces. Thank you for your friendship and the privilege of being one of your bridesmaids on that momentous day. It was such a honour being there to witness our high school prayers being answered, and to see you marry your best friend. I pray God’s richest blessings over your marriage. May it be an extraordinary one which testifies of God’s love, goodness and faithfulness, and may it bring hope to so many who have lost the faith in marriage and the divine covenant that it is. I love you both dearly and am excited to see how God is going to use you! Sending so much love xxx
Below are some of the pics I took during their couple shoot. The rest of the day was expertly captured on camera by their friend Hennie Lacock, whilst Chelsea Goldman made sure all the happy moments were brilliantly caught on video. :)
I had such a great time with these fellow bridal party hooligans. What a bunch of clowns! :) Photo cred: Chelsea Goldman
Chelsea did a ridiculously good job with her first ever wedding video!
